If there's anything I know about Steam users, it's that they bloody love that wishlist system. Hundreds, if not thousands of games, all plonked in a single list that we can pretend we'll go through eventually to pick out some corkers we know we'll love, even though we know we'll just play the same thing we always do because the exhaustion of daily life limits what we can take in? Live service games face an interesting conundrum, I think: how do you keep offering the core experience of a game while also periodically reinventing it, and varying it, in such a way that will make it feel new? Overwatch is a game facing such a conundrum, and Blizzard has tried all kinds of different things to mix it up: switching to five-person teams from six, developing a PvE mode that never materialised, and for the past year or so, offering a MOBA-like mode called Stadium.
