For decades, Halo developers have resisted the influence of the vastly better-selling Call of Duty shooters. Now, the makers of Call of Duty own Halo. As part of Microsoft's on-going axing-down of their Xbox gaming business, the company have placed Bungie's old FPS in the hands of Activision, while making layoffs at erstwhile series custodian Halo Studios and demoting the latter to a support studio for existing Halo games. "I thought people would leave": Hideo Kojima offers his account of Physint's switch from PlayStation to Xbox, as his studio insist they're in a "healthy, profitable state"
Hideo Koijima and his studio Kojima Productions have offered a more in-depth version of their side of the story after action espionage game Physint switched publishers from PlayStation to Xbox earlier this month. Kojima claimed PlayStation had tried to cancel the game, with a subsequent report from Bloomberg alleging that an exceeded budget, missed deadlines, and Death Stranding series sales not being as strong as Sony hoped were among the factors which led the console makers to get cold feet.
Now, Kojima Productions have urged people to take those claims "with a dose of scepticism", as Kojima has gone through his version of the events around the jump between publishers.
